Supplements are an important part of Dr. Matsen’s Eating Alive Program and many of his patients are prescribed several different kinds to take 2 or 3 times a day. It can be time-consuming and inconvenient having to open several bottles more than once a day every day in order to take your supplements, so try the following tip.

Buy mini (2” x 3½”) zip-lock plastic bags from in the Crafts section of your local dollar store. Sort out several days’ worth of supplements at a time so that you only have to open each bottle once. I find it’s easiest to lay a clean small towel or dishtowel down on the table or countertop to place the supplements on, otherwise they end up rolling all over the place! Put all those that you take with a meal together in one bag. Use a permanent marker to label the bag with B (breakfast), L (lunch), or D (dinner), if necessary. If you have supplements that you take on an empty stomach (away from meals), do the same for those.

Now your supplements are ready ahead of time. If you’re heading out, you can just throw them into your purse, bag, or pocket and easily take them with you. And remember that the mini plastic bags can be reused over and over again. One package of bags will last you a long time.
