Those who are regular readers of this website have probably noticed that we often refer to articles posted on the HANS (Health Action Network Society) website and we also have them listed on our “Links” page. So I thought I’d provide you with some more information about them and encourage you to support them by becoming a member.

HANS is a charitable natural health resource that provides information on preventive medicine and natural therapeutics through their website, a reference library, Health Action magazine, the HANS e-News, and regular educational and networking events. Their members are like-minded people of all backgrounds, lay and professional, who share an interest in a natural approach to health care.

Their two key strategies to achieve their mission and vision are:

1) To provide health information (library, website, newsletter, educational seminars, answering enquiries, events, and workshops) to individuals so they can make an informed choice.

2) To spearhead health issues important to the individual, guided with careful research and public relations campaigns to enable change at the regulatory level.

HANS is one of the only consumer health groups that uses their membership support to go to Victoria and Ottawa on their behalf. They believe that the people who prefer a nutritional or non-drug approach to health care should get the same rights and privileges as those who prefer drug therapy.

HANS has the largest on-line health library in B.C. and they have fielded up to 25,000 enquiries a year from British Columbians. They also have many educational projects on the go.

I have been a member of HANS for many years and encourage others to do the same. Your membership helps to keep this valuable resource running and costs as little as $35 per year. HANS members receive discounts at HANS-sponsored events, a subscription to their magazine, a free gift, and the knowledge that you’re supporting an important voice of the Canadian natural health consumer.
